Fergie

Fergie: An Electronic Music Artist Biggie

When he’s nowhere near his DJ gears, Fergie is known as Robert William Ferguson to family members and personal friends.

For the sake of those who’ve been living under a rock all this time, Fergie is a popular Northern Irish DJ who released his debut album called “Dynamite & Laserbeams” back in 2000. The said album, by the way, won Fergie best album at the Irish Dance Music Awards in 2011.

As early as 1999, Fergie has been getting all sorts of nominations and awards. His first best DJ nomination, for instance, happened at the Ericsson Muzik Awards in 1999, but it was a couple of years after when he bagged his very first best newcomer award at the IDJ Awards back in 2001.

Both in 2006 and 2007, Fergie was named best Northern Irish DJ at the Northern Ireland Dance Music Awards.

A Very Early Taste of Dance Music

Back when he was 13 years old, Fergie decided that he wanted to become a DJ. This was after he had his first taste of dance music at the Arena, which is now known as the Met, where he was sneaked inside it by Michael Collins, a DJ and family friend, through the fire escape.

Just like what they say, the rest is history — Fergie got his hands on a pair of turntables after hearing DJ Robbie Nelson (of Agnelli & Nelson today) playing live that night at the said nightclub. As fate would have it, at the same tender age Fergie stopped going to school because of a couple of reasons: he was dyslexic and he had a car accident.

Since then he was homeschooled and also worked at nightclubs and record bars despite being underage, which was a good thing because it helped to further his desire to be a DJ.

Going Strong Since Then

It was when he was 14 years old when Fergie had his first paid DJ gig at Airport 2000, which is a nightclub located in Templepatrick, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Despite being underage, Fergie was showing signs of potential and that’s why he was given the opportunity to be spotted inside DJ booths not only in Ireland but also London. In the summer of 1998, he got his passport and took a plane to Ibiza where he played at various nightclubs and exclusive beach resorts.

Throughout his music career, Fergie has held residencies in some of the coolest party venues in Europe. These days, you can find him in the US — as of 2018, he holds residencies at Hakkasan Nightclub, Omnia Nightclub and Wet Republic in Las Vegas.
